It is the year 1327 and there has been a mysterious death in a Benedictine abbey. The monks are convinced that the apocalypse is coming, but all that is coming instead are more murders. William of Baskerville, an intellectual and nonconformist friar, investigates the deaths, along with his trusted pupil Adso of Melk.
