The lawyer Vincenzo Arduni marries the beautiful daughter of a building builder. His wife’s family insists on having a grandson, but Arduni discovers he is barren. The lawyer asks a friend (a priest!) for help, who takes the place in his wife’s bed. The wife has been drugged. The priest is full of guilt and Arduni kills him, for fear that he can tell the truth.
